No. Orthodoxy has historically interpreted the creation story as inspired revelation, metaphor, and not as a literal historical record. 7 is a number in that symbolises completeness and divine perfection.
However, you will find many Christians who do in fact take it literally.
I think part of the beauty of the story is that you can read it both ways, and it changes nothing.
The main point, or central idea, stays the same - and that is that God created the world. How God did it, in a technical sense, is really irrelevant.
